Transition Year Core Subjects – Academic Continuity with Purpose
Maintaining Key Learning in English, Irish, and Maths While Exploring Senior Cycle Options
At Catholic University School, the Transition Year programme maintains a strong academic foundation through the continued study of core subjects, including English, Irish, and Mathematics. These subjects are central to the TY curriculum, ensuring that students retain and build upon the essential skills developed during the Junior Cycle while preparing for the challenges of Senior Cycle.
In addition to these core areas, students are introduced to a wide range of subjects available for Leaving Certificate, such as the three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), three business subjects (Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy), History, Geography, and Classical Studies. This exposure allows students to make more informed subject choices and supports a smoother transition into fifth year.
The approach taken at CUS balances academic progression with exploration, encouraging students to remain intellectually engaged while developing the confidence and maturity needed for the next stage of their educational journey.
