Comprehensive Relationships and Sexuality Education at CUS

Nurturing Respectful and Informed Perspectives within a Catholic Framework

At Catholic University School (CUS), Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) is an integral component of our commitment to the holistic development of students. Aligned with our Catholic ethos and the guidelines set by the Department of Education and Skills, our RSE program aims to provide students with age-appropriate knowledge and understanding of relationships and sexuality, fostering personal well-being and promoting respectful attitudes.

Objectives of the RSE Program:

  • Holistic Development: Support students’ overall growth by imparting knowledge about human relationships and sexuality in a manner consistent with the school’s Catholic values.
  • Informed Decision-Making: Equip students with accurate information to make responsible and informed choices regarding their relationships and sexual health.
  • Promotion of Respect and Inclusivity: Cultivate an environment of respect, understanding, and inclusivity, encouraging students to appreciate diversity and uphold the dignity of every individual.

Program Implementation:

RSE is delivered as part of the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum across various year groups. The program encompasses topics such as human development, relationships, self-esteem, and moral considerations, all presented in a manner that reflects the moral and spiritual values of the Catholic faith.

Parental Involvement:

Recognizing parents as the primary educators of their children, CUS actively involves parents in the RSE program. Opportunities are provided for parents to engage with the curriculum content and discuss any concerns, ensuring a collaborative approach to student development.

Through our RSE program, Catholic University School remains dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals who respect themselves and others, guided by the principles of the Catholic faith.
