Junior Cycle Spanish – Communicate, Connect, Explore
Developing Real-World Language Skills and Cultural Awareness
Junior Cycle Spanish at CUS offers students the opportunity to build strong communicative skills in one of the world’s most widely spoken languages. Aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at A1–A2 level, the course develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills over three years.
Students explore real-life topics that are both relevant and engaging, such as family, school, food, travel, and hobbies, while also gaining an appreciation of Spanish and Latin American culture, customs, and daily life. Emphasis is placed on building confidence through active participation, oral practice, and collaborative tasks.
Assessment includes two Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs):
- CBA 1 (2nd Year): An oral communication task such as a role-play, interview, or presentation.
- CBA 2 (3rd Year): A reflective portfolio that captures the student’s learning journey in Spanish.
Whether students are preparing for future travel, exams, or simply wish to enjoy learning a new language, Junior Cycle Spanish provides a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages global awareness and lifelong language learning.
