J.C. – German

Junior Cycle German – Sprache, Kultur, Kommunikation
Building a Strong Foundation in Language Learning and Cultural Awareness
Junior Cycle German aims to develop communicative language skills broadly aligned with the A band (A1 to A2, basic user) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its descriptors.
The course is taught over a three-year period and the syllabus focuses on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills which form the foundation for the continuation of the language at Leaving Certificate level.
Towards the end of 2nd Year in German, students complete a CBA (Classroom Based Assessment) which allows pupils to demonstrate their oral communication in German by choosing a format, PowerPoint presentation, dialogue, or role-play on a topic that has been covered in class.
In addition to this, students log their work and keep a portfolio of their Junior Cycle German language experience which helps them to prepare for their Junior Cycle German exam at the end of 3rd Year.
