J.C. – French

Junior Cycle French – Language, Culture, and Communication

Building Skills in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing Through Real-World Language Use

Junior Cycle French aims to promote an understanding and awareness of various aspects of the French language by developing students’ receptive skills (I.e. listening and reading) and productive skills (I.e. spoken and written). The course also aims to encourage students to explore the cultural aspect of the language through project/ research-based activities to gain an appreciation for the use of French in everyday contexts.

Students are encouraged to develop their oral skills in French by completing a Classroom-Based-Assessment (CBA) in second year in which they create a small presentation around a topic of their choosing. They are also required to keep a log of their work in order to complete a reflective CBA in third year.

At all times, students are asked to engage with practical listening and reading activities whilst also creating meaningful communication through spoken and written pieces of work.
