Catholic University School

School Sports

Rugby, cricket, tennis, athletics, swimming and martial arts are all offered in CUS.

On Wednesday afternoons the students are expected to become involved in an extra curricular activity.

Those students playing rugby are taken to our sports grounds on Bird Avenue, Clonskeagh by bus for training or matches. There are professional coaches assigned to each age group, together with the full-time PE/Sports staff in CUS, under the direction of Mr Stephen Tonge, Head of Sport.

There is additional training or matches on Saturday mornings for all the age groups. Class groups from 1st to 4th year are assigned three PE periods each week and during these periods the students train in Bird Avenue or take part in PE / weights sessions in school. Senior classes (5th & 6th year) are assigned last two classes on Friday afternoon for training and conditioning.

Alternative Wednesday afternoon activities are martial arts (held in CUS); swimming (held in Mespil swimming pool); chess (held in CUS); tennis (held in Merrion tennis club) and athletics (held in Belfield).

Once the rugby season is over, all students are encouraged to become involved in either cricket or tennis.

CUS has won the Senior Leinster Cup in Cricket six times since 1999.

Our past pupil, Eoin Morgan, represented Ireland in the Cricket World Cup in the summer 2007 and now plays for Middlesex, and has also been selected for the English Test Cricket Team.
