Swimming at CUS: Dive Into Skill, Strength, and Confidence

An Extracurricular Activity Promoting Fitness, Focus, and Fun in the Water

Swimming at Catholic University School is more than just an extracurricular activity—it’s a close-knit, welcoming community where students grow in skill, confidence, and camaraderie. Held weekly at Mespil Swimming Pool, this activity is open to swimmers of all abilities, from beginners just starting out to more advanced swimmers working to improve their technique and endurance.

This year, the Swimming Club has thrived—not just in physical progress, but in spirit. Despite being one of the smaller sports groups, the club is known for its friendly, encouraging atmosphere. Many students joined without knowing how to swim, choosing to challenge themselves and embrace something new. Their transformation has been incredible, with many now swimming comfortably and confidently thanks to consistent effort and team support.

Swimming promotes cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and coordination, all while offering a low-impact, highly effective form of exercise. It also supports recovery for students involved in other sports, making it a great complement to the wider CUS athletic programme.

But the benefits go far beyond physical. Swimming teaches discipline, resilience, and mental focus—qualities that help students succeed in and out of the pool. And perhaps most importantly, the weekly sessions are just plain fun. There’s always laughter, friendship, and a strong sense of team spirit.

Special thanks to Ms. Maloney, who makes the club possible by bringing students to the pool each week and supporting them at every stroke of their journey.

Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just dipping your toes in, the CUS Swimming Club invites you to take the plunge and be part of something special.
