Strength & Conditioning at CUS: Build Strength, Build Character

A Structured Programme for Fitness, Focus, and Long-Term Development

Offered as part of the extracurricular programme at Catholic University School, Strength & Conditioning provides students with a powerful platform to improve physical fitness, athletic performance, and overall well-being. Led by dedicated staff including Mr. Doody, Mr. Twamley, and Mr. Chetty, the programme supports students at all levels—from aspiring athletes to those simply looking to become fitter and more confident in their physical ability.

Sessions run year-round, with Senior Strength & Conditioning taking place after school from 4:00–5:00 PM, and Junior players in 2nd and 3rd Year training in the morning from 7:15–8:15 AM. Both groups train on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using high-quality equipment in a safe and structured gym environment.

The focus goes beyond physical strength. Students work on mobility, injury prevention, posture, and functional movement—developing a well-rounded approach to health and athleticism. The programme complements sports like rugby, athletics, and tennis, while also supporting general fitness goals.

As Diarmuid Caufield (3rd Year) notes, the commitment shown by students is inspiring:
“The students showed amazing commitment, making the journey to school in all kinds of weather—some early in the morning, and some staying late after school.”

Strength & Conditioning at CUS isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about developing discipline, resilience, and consistency. It’s about healthy habits that carry over into the classroom, on the sports field, and in life beyond school.

A huge thanks to all the students and staff who made this programme such a success. Whether you’re training for performance or personal growth, Strength & Conditioning at CUS is your path to becoming stronger—physically, mentally, and as a team.
