Rugby at CUS – More Than a Game
Building Character, Camaraderie, and Champions on and off the Field
We have large numbers of students playing rugby, as it is the main sport in the school. Students of all ages and abilities are encourgaed to participate in the game.
CUS Seniors 1st XV participate in the Leinster School’s Division 1A League which runs from October to December of the school year.
CUS Juniors won the Fr. Godfrey Cup 2023/24 and hope to build on that success in the future.
Rugby is seen as vitally important to the development of the students. Its key values such as teamwork, leadership, hardwork, sportsmanship, and humility are actively encouraged. As well as providing physical education to your son, it is an integral part of the social bonding process and their holistic development
The newly developed Rugby programme is led by the Director of Rugby, Brian Blaney. Training sessions take place on a variety of days, depending on age group. On a Wednesday, those students playing rugby are taken to our sports grounds in Bird Avenue, Clonskeagh by bus for training or matches. We also have the use of Lansdowne RFC and Bective RFC, both all-weather pitches. There are professional coaches assigned to each age group, together with the PE/Sports and teaching staff from CUS.
CUS Staff play a huge role within the rugby programme.
