Cricket at CUS – A Proud Tradition of Excellence

A Summer Sport with Year-Round Spirit and a Legacy of Champions

Cricket holds a special and long-standing place in the sporting life of Catholic University School, with a proud tradition of success and a strong presence across all age groups. From thrilling finals to inspiring individual performances, CUS cricket continues to go from strength to strength.

Recent seasons saw tremendous achievements for CUS. The Senior Team, coached by past pupil David O’Halloran, kicked off their campaign with a win against St. Mary’s College, followed by victories over Wesley College and Sandford Park, which secured a place in the Senior Schools Final. Led by captain Ollie Manks (6th Year), CUS faced St. Columba’s College and emerged victorious with a commanding performance. CUS scored 191/7 and St Columba’s were all out for 109, with CUS winning by 82 runs. A standout performance came from Niall Cox (5th Year) with a five-wicket haul, helping CUS reclaim the Leinster Senior Schools Cricket Championship.

Meanwhile, younger teams also made their mark. The First Year team reached the final but narrowly lost to Willow Park. They returned stronger and secured a big win over St. Columba’s, highlighted by Joe Morrissey’s incredible 93 runs.

The Senior team, now captained by Luke Thomson (6th Year), began their season with another solid win over Sandford Park, thanks to standout performances from both Thomson and Chris Butler.

While the season comes alive in the summer term, the dedication starts early. Winter training sessions help build skill, strategy and team spirit long before the first ball is bowled. Cricket at CUS is about more than just silverware. It is about precision, passion and pride, with students learning valuable lessons in focus, patience and teamwork.

CUS also proudly celebrates the legacy of Eoin Morgan, a former student and World Cup-winning captain of England, an inspiring symbol of where dedication to cricket at CUS can lead.

Whether you are picking up a bat for the first time or aiming for competitive glory, there is a place for you in CUS cricket, a team where tradition meets opportunity.
