Basketball at CUS – Energy, Skill, and Team Spirit

A Fast-Paced, Inclusive Sport Open to All Year Groups

Basketball at Catholic University School is open to students of all ages and abilities, offering a welcoming space for players to grow both on and off the court. With training sessions held at least twice a week, students develop their skills, build fitness, and experience the camaraderie of being part of a committed and energetic team.

The programme is expertly led by Coach Padraig Kent, whose dedication and leadership have helped elevate basketball across every year group. Supported by Mr. Conway and Ms. O’Connor, students from 1st Year through to 6th Year train regularly and represent CUS in the East Dublin League, bringing pride, spirit, and sportsmanship to every game.

First Year Champions: A Dream Season

The First Year Basketball Team had a season to remember. Starting with training at Loreto and moving to Trinity College, the team grew in numbers and confidence. Their first-ever match—a win against Kishoge Community College—gave them the momentum they needed. Week by week, with training on Mondays and Wednesdays, they improved under the guidance of Coach Kent.

Their crowning achievement came in the East Plate Final against Edmund Rice College. In a nail-biting finish, CUS overturned a five-point deficit in the final minute to win 42–40, sparking celebrations and capturing their first piece of silverware. The support of staff and fellow students made the day even more special.

Junior Cycle Team: Dedication and Development

Second Year student Zhou Rei reflected on a year of growth and success with the Junior Cycle Team (JCT). With consistent training and teamwork, the squad earned multiple wins and deepened their bond as a unit. Their journey is a reflection of what basketball at CUS is all about: development, enjoyment, and shared commitment.

Seniors: Rising to the Challenge

The Senior Basketball Team had an exciting run reaching the Regional Final and competing in the All-Ireland Qualifiers. The experience laid the foundation for a step up, as the team moved from the C League to the more competitive B League. While the season had its ups and downs, standout wins over St. Andrew’s and Gonzaga highlighted the team’s growth and potential. A tough loss in the Plate Semi-Final ended the season, but the team looks forward to building on their experience next year with a strong group of returning 5th Years.

Basketball at CUS is more than a sport—it’s a journey of discipline, teamwork, and self-belief. Whether you’re just picking up the ball or aiming for championship glory, there’s a place for you in the CUS basketball family.
