Prefects at CUS: Leading by Example

An Extracurricular Role Rooted in Responsibility, Service, and School Spirit

At Catholic University School, the role of Prefect is a valued extracurricular position of leadership and service. Prefects are senior students selected to represent the school’s values, support the wider student body, and contribute positively to the day-to-day life of the school community.

The Prefects in CUS have a number of key responsibilities. In First Year, they assist the class head in helping new students settle into secondary school life—providing support, encouragement, and a friendly face. In Second Year, they continue their leadership by helping the class head guide students toward maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic. In both years, Prefects act as positive role models for younger students, setting a standard of respect, responsibility, and school spirit.

As role models, Prefects demonstrate maturity, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. Their duties may also include mentoring younger students, assisting at school events, supporting staff, and promoting a positive, respectful environment throughout the school. They are encouraged to listen, lead, and help foster a culture of inclusion and cooperation.

Becoming a Prefect is both an honour and a learning experience. It offers students the chance to grow in confidence, communication, and leadership—skills that benefit them not only during their time at CUS but well into their future.

Prefects at CUS don’t just wear a badge—they carry the school’s ethos with pride.
