Annual Cake Sale – 25th October

Our annual cake sale is taking place on Friday 25th October. This is an important fundraising event for the CUS Hamperfund in conjunction with Saint Vincent DePaul.

Catholic University School has been running the Hamper Fund in conjunction with Saint Vincent DePaul for over 50 years. We are an SVP conference and we make an annual commitment to raise money and package food hampers for families in need at Christmas.

Every year, we raise approximately €25,000 through fund raising. With this money we buy approximately 100 hampers worth of food, €5,000 in Dunnes Stores food vouchers and make donations of over €5,000 to other SVP conferences. The CUS community donate food to make up the other 100 hampers. We also donate food to the Capuchin Centre and Pearse Street Garda Station for their Local Outreach Programmes.

To fundraise, we have our annual cake sale and raffle, collect money on Grafton Street through carol singing, our Parents Association lunch and our Past Pupil dinner. We also heavily rely on donations from parent, past pupils and businesses.

The food hampers contain non-perishable daily basics like pasta, rice, cereal, tinned vegetables, jars of sauce etc. and are delivered to local primary schools (St James’ Primary School, St Laurence O’Tooles National School and South City CNS) and different organisations like Homeless Girls, Ruhama, Donare Parish and SVP conferences. We also send food vouchers and cheques to some of these organisations.

To help support the cake sale, we ask families to bake buns, cakes etc so the TY students can sell them to the students on the day. The specifics of the day will be communicated in the coming weeks.
